Exhibiting during the Crawl: SHAG
International art phenom, Josh Agle (aka
SHAG) will be exhibiting his work during the art crawl. Since his first one-man
show at La Luz de Jesus in 1998, Shag has met with phenomenal success. He has
sold out exhibitions in the United States, Sydney Australia, and Japan. His
collaborative work with designer Paul Frank inspired a line of purses, wallets,
CD cases
and
bar stools, which immediately sold out at his La Luz show in 2001. Shag has
created a whole line of tiki mugs and lamps for Tiki Farm and has also
illustrated various "grog logs" and date books. Shag was also
responsible for almost every single aspect of design for Venus, a cocktail
lounge/restaurant at the Venetian resort on the Las Vegas strip. Unfortunately,
due to zealous "collectors" appropriating the menus, lobby displays,
swizzle sticks, and napkins designed by SHAG, Venus was forced to redecorate
with a less tempting motif. Since then he has designed three custom guitars in
collaboration with Fender Custom Shop Master Builder, John English and has been
invited to paint one of the first production re-issues of Richard Neutra's 1948
Boomerang Chair.
For
twenty years, La Luz de Jesus Gallery has been committed to bringing cutting
edge art to the masses. Nestled within one of Los AngelesÕ most interesting and
unique retail emporiums, WACKO, La Luz de Jesus Gallery exhibits an interesting
and eclectic array of artists and art.

In a town that is filled to the brim
with people who say they are making art but in reality are just trying to get
their next dollar, it is refreshing to visit a gallery that lacks the LA
pretense. The Lioness Art Gallery
on Sunset Boulevard stands on its own and lets the viewer come to his own
conclusion. Silverlake is a part of town known for its eclectic and quirky
sensibility. There is the LA flash, as only Sunset can provide, yet the area
melts together the Latin and African cultures into a unique brand all its own.
The Lioness Art Gallery brings together two unique cultures and reminds us that
art transcends languages and national borders.

As if not enough lines exist delineating
regions, weather, moods, and even literature, the name of the gallery, Tropico
de Nopal, was inspired by both the cactus commonly used as food in Mexico and
the novel "Tropic of Orange" by Karen Tei Yamashita. Tropico de Nopal
Gallery-Art Space was created to inspire and involve, surprise and enhance new
visions, in an intimate setting, exposing art of many forms to the constantly
unfolding community of Los Angeles.
Tropico de Nopal hosts 4-6 exhibitions
per year including "Ofrendas - Dia de Muertos Altar-Installations" in
November. Founder/Director, Reyes Rodriguez is a visual artist. He considers Tropico de
Nopal an extension of his creative process, a way to expand, expose and include
