Misato Otake
"Murdered By Beauty"

August 7 - 30, 2009

In her work, Misato Otake expresses her affinity with the cute characters of Japanese pop culture and the tattoo, street art and rock ‘n ‘ roll music of contemporary Los Angeles. “Murdered by Beauty” tells of a tragic place where girls use their power of attraction to fulfill desire in a society where sex suppresses and ultimately destroys life and nature. Working with pen and ink, Otake loves to incorporate fine outlines in her acrylic and panel paintings. Otake has included among the 9 pieces in “Murdered by Beauty”, her first sculpture, created from Super Sculpy, wires, wood, and beads. Born in Japan, Otake moved to Los Angeles to study art at the age of 15 and currently works as a graphic designer and freelance illustrator.
