Dale Sizer
July 3 - Aug 2, 2009
Dale Sizer paints homages to classic retro themes, particularly drawing on his childhood fascination with all things tropical to create mash-ups of Polynesian pop and pulp romance. Rough-and-tumble, lovelorn ladies gaze from mid-century houses and dangerous vixens hang out in front of the Space Needle. Sizer, a resident of Los Angeles, is also obsessed with vintage show business. Images of old and tawdry tinsel town shape the esthetic of his pop-culture paintings. From the sexy, vintage pinup to the darkly nostalgic film noir, Hollywood’s glamorous pop icons mold Dale’s cartoonish visions. Sizer’s background in the animation departments of Hanna Barbera, Warner Brothers, Disney and Film Roman have influenced his recent acrylic on metal flake vinyl portraits of dogs, dames and deserts. |
