P-JAY FIDLER – "The Permutation Generator"
PJ Fidler’s "The Permutation Generator" reflects the concept of metamorphism – sacrificing what you are to become something else. The paintings focus on life, love, sex and death and how each of these experiences transform each one of us. Deeply influenced by his childhood surroundings in a small farm community in Central California, his art is an unfolding of nonlinear narratives. Commonly comprised of animal imagery, landscapes and religious iconography, Fidler’s work reflects his love of Flemish paintings, vintage children’s books, and contemporary graphic design using mixed media on wood and canvas. The results, with their mixture of adolescent archetypes and the dark psychological aspects of the human condition, are often surreal, ambiguous, and yet very much familiar. Fidler studied illustration at the Pasadena Art Center College of Design and currently lives and works in Los Angeles. www.pjfidler.com
“P-Jay Fidler’s pieces are exercises in exuberance. The macabre and the merry co-exist in a frenzy of color. Such a treat.” -- Pam Grossman, www.phantasmaphile.com
