August 3-26, 2007
Jane Gotts was born and educated in England attending the Cheltenham College of Art and Design in Gloucestershire, England. Gotts began her working life in animation in Bristol, and then London; she was eventually shipped out to Los Angeles to work at DreamWorks. Gotts worked in various guises as head of the color model department, head of 2d-cg, and compositing supervisor on such films as Prince of Egypt, The Road to Eldorado, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron and Sinbad, Legend of the Seven Seas.Gotts’ current series of paintings evoke medieval bestiaries; stories about creatures both real and fanciful that were popular texts in the Middle Ages. These creatures are often presented in courtly pose and trappings, through techniques usually seen in traditional, centuries-old portraits of royalty and the clergy.
