- La Luz
de Jesus is extremely proud to present to you the art of film director,
writer, artist, Clive Barker. His enthusiasm as an artist, as he describes
it, is "rooted not in any particular medium, but in the act of
imagining. My books, films, drawings, and plays, though they may seem
to be very disparate in content, are all mapping out different parts
of the same landscape: that is to say, the world between my ears.
I am motivated to write or paint by images and scenes which arise
from my subconscious, without invitation, which seem on closer inspection
to dramatize elements of my deeper self." Although best known
for writing and directing very successful horror films, such as HELLRAISER,
Barker has also received critical acclaim for his art exhibitions
at LACE, the Laguna Art Museum and the Bess Cutler Gallery in New
York, The artist is influenced by Edgar Allen Poe, Ray Bradbury, Herman
Melville, William Blake, William Burroughs, and both the old and new
Testaments of the Bible. These influences are all literary, but Barker
sees little separation between creating stories and creating paintings.
Both serve to illustrate the eruption of the unconscious into our
day to day lives. We feel very fortunate to bring you "One Flesh",
a new series of drawings and paintings from the uniquely talented
Clive Barker.
