- Marco
Zanini had the idea to narrate stories via a show of hand painted
ceramics and he called upon Massimo Giacon for help. Once, when there
was no television and no Internet, painted vases told stories. Now
it is far more complicated, international, global, fast and competitive,
and reasoning has become much more difficult. But ceramics, with their
ancient immobility and indifference, with the simplicity of baked
clay, can today provide a medium for telling stories of our contemporary
life - beyond the immediate consumption of news that leaves us in
reality impermeable to any event. Zanini and Giacon attempt to penetrate
their existing reality. Although always motivated by an ever more
digital, virtual, obsolete world, these artists give us a humble vase
of baked and painted clay as a means of halting the image for an instant
and allowing ourselves a little time. Born in Northern Italy in 1954,
designer and architect Marco Zanini is a graduate of the University
of Florence. He is currently partner and managing director of Sottsass
Associates in Milan. Independently, Zanini designs ceramics, jewelry,
furniture and objects in blown glass. Born in Padua in 1961, Massimo
Giacon is a multifaceted artist who has been cartooning for over a
decade. He is at present very active in various fields, including
painting, comics, object design, and music.
