Al Farrow

"Twentieth Century Reliquaries"

June 6 - 29, 1997

Al Farrow is a San Francisco based sculptor who constructs reliquaries (containers for relics) that employ symbols of war, religion and death in a facade of architectural beauty and harmony. His sculptures are an ironic play on the medieval cult of the relic, tomb art and the seductive nature of objects commissioned by those seeking positions of power. Farrow himself is not a "gun person". His fascination with guns is with their function and use. The artist is most interested in their seeming necessity, their widespread accessibility, and their impact on society and culture: past, present, and future. Farrow has been showing in solo and group shows across the country and the world for over twenty years. This is his first show at La Luz de Jesus Gallery.
