Josh Gosfield

"Mighty House Of Pictures"

February 7 - March 2, 1997

Josh Gosfield lives in New York City and makes pictures for a living. If you've been at all hip to the underground art scene of the last several years, you know what a massive understatement that is. Gosfield is a visual artist; he is a painter and an illustrator. He has illustrated New Yorker covers, Miramax web sites and created installations for the Christmas windows of Barney's New York, and his list of clients goes on and on to include Time, Newsweek, Levi's and MTV. This will be his third solo show at La Luz de Jesus, because quite frankly, his work is just so damn good. Gosfield's paintings are like a bulletin board of marred images and perfect color, signs and numbers, cut outs and sketches. Many artists attempt this collage-like approach to art, but few have the innate talent and the aesthetic eye of Josh Gosfield. He was art director of New York Magazine for five years and has had many successful one man shows of his paintings in NY and LA. This will be the only chance to catch him exhibiting on the west coast this year. Los Angeles has been anxiously awaiting the unique presentation of his latest themes.
