Elizabeth Uyehara

"An Urban Perspective"

December 5 - 28, 1997

Elizabeth Uyehara is an artist and an illustrator, born and raised in Los Angeles. Her work is influenced by the artists of the German Expressionist Movement, most importantly, Max Beckmann. Like the Expressionists, her oil paintings are inspired by the multitudes of people living in the urban landscape. The pieces depict ordinary people, police, prostitutes, drag queens and street kids, usually crammed into a shallow space and painted with intense color to illustrate the energy of city life. A graduate of Art Center, Uyehara's list of clients include Gentleman's Quarterly, The Washington Post, The New Yorker, and The Los Angeles Times. This will be the artist's first exhibit with us.
