- "I
firmly believe, as a visual artist, that there be nothing at all naive
or pedestrian about a thing well-made." So says self-taught artist
Rick Araluce. Returning for his fifth exhibition at La Luz de Jesus,
Araluce once again prepares to seduce his audience with images, ideas,
and associations, through his mixed media constructions and collages.
The artist attempts and somehow succeeds to find beauty in decay,
logic in the impossible. His pieces are dark and visionary, literal
and poetic, incorporating a conceptual assemblage of material including
bone, blood, twigs, roots, and insects. The art questions all things
unseen: What's behind the stained surface of that wall? What lies
beneath those sagging boards? Araluce transcends political and societal
messages and reaches straight for the core human conditions and experiences
that bind us all.
