Ned Baughman

"Immortal Drifters"

April 3 - 26, 1998

Born in Wisconsin in 1949 and a graduate of San Francisco Art Institute, Ned Baughman has since been showing his exquisitely rendered acrylic paintings in exhibits between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Baughman constucts his paintings from delicate washes of primary colors that build gradually to embody a sensitivity and maturity in tone. As he applies one color, one texture after another, in an almost ritualistic way it becomes the re-living and understanding of the vision. According to the artist, the primary focus of this vision is "the frontier of doubt and adventure, portrayed suggestively, illuminated uneasily to give form to the uncertain border between light and disintegration, darkness and creation". The result is an intriguing combination of the very real and the surreal. This is Ned Baughman's second show at La Luz de Jesus.
