- A
newcomer to the Los Angeles art scene, Jason Mecier comes to us from
San Francisco, where his bean and noodle art has made him the toast
of the town. A technique inspired by trailer park crafts and macaroni
art in particular; it has given the artist a medium in which to create
abstract and textural impressions of his favorite images. Those images
usually come straight from television, which he considers to be the
foundation of the almighty American Pop Culture. He believes it is
high time we affirm the importance of television and what it represents.
In the tradition of old European court portraiture, these mosaic masterpieces
serve as historical monuments for a star struck civilization. In the
tradition of Salvador Dali, each piece undergoes a transformation
into photorealism as the distance between the viewer and the image
increases. This is Mecier's first show at La Luz de Jesus Gallery
and the artist would like to state that he will gladly accept all
pencil and cigarette lighter donations.
Though
we always recommend that you click on the images to see the larger
versions, we INSIST that you do so here, to fully appreciate the
detail of Jason's works.
