Lande returns to La Luz De Jesus with more physically charged
sexual archetypes of her own. For her latest show here, she continues
to portray denizens of L.A.'s art and performance world as their
larger than life selves. Theatrically lit, costumed and posed as
mythical characters, Lande's paintings serve as a cabaret-styled
photo album of the town's most flamboyant characters. Her work is
unique in that its style alludes more to the later 19th- Century's
decadent period, portayed then by Toulouse-Lautrec and Degas, than
with the late 20th-Century club scene whose participants she depicts.
