Joe Sorren

"Skating With A Princess"

December 4, 1998 - January 3, 1999

La Luz de Jesus is extremely pleased to introduce Joe Sorren to the Los Angeles art world. He first caught our eye in 1997 as the gold medal winner in the Society of Illustrators of New York competition, and again this year when he won the gold medal in Los Angeles. His award winning illustrations have appeared in publications such as Rolling Stone, Print, and The Los Angeles Times. Sorren paints mostly in acrylic, sometimes in pencil, and crayon as well, and creates some of the most delicate, muted, inarguably beautiful paintings that we have seen in some time. Influenced by a variety of artists, from Vermeer and Twombly to Jack Kerouac, the artist is noticeably interested in the power than lies within stillness. The paintings seem to exude a purity, like if silence had color and stroke, that comes directly yet surreptitiously from an incredible technique and mastery of the brush. Joe Sorren currently works in Arizona where he lives with his wife, daughter and son. Please join us in welcoming ad debuting this vibrant new talent to La Luz de Jesus Gallery.
