"Group Show "

July 2 - August 1, 1999

Once upon a time, a boy named Gerald de Jesus discovered a community of woodland elves in his backyard. The elves guarded a magic paintbrush that could paint anything its master wished. Gerald threatened to step on their mushroom houses unless the elves gave up the magical brush. He could be found sitting in his chair eating nachos while commanding the mystical brush to paint his visions of grandeur. He feels that the elves will retaliate one day and do strange things with his innards, so he sleeps with a shotgun at night. The artists describes his work as a mad symphony of fuzzy animals, chirping birdies, pretty flowers and freaks of nature that have no place in society. His various influences include Frida Kahlo, Manuel Ocampo, Beatrix Potter, religious art, cigar box art, 60's pin-up, and countless others. He tries to tell strange stories with his art at the expense of the characters in the paintings. Gerald graduated from the Art Center College of Design and he currently lives in San Diego, California. He doesn't trust people with pointy ears.
