Saiman Chow, Gerald de Jesus, Isabel Samaras, Douglas Thompson

"Group Show "

July 2 - August 1, 1999

The paintings of Isabel Samaras are fed by a fixation with the absurd and a fascination with disposable icons, layered with the things the artist loves: classic horror movies, master paintings, cheesy TV, and living legends, all made solid on the physical remains of childhood. Old tin TV trays, lunch boxes, and wooden game boards become the surfaces for paintings examining everything from the sordid life-and -death styles of celebrated Americans to the forbidden fantasies of cartoon characters. The Devil Babes speak for the sassy, saucy creatures that live inside us all.
