Gin Stevens
"Metacarpal Blues"
July 6 -July 29, 2001
|
Abandoned on the steps of a Baptist church in Rolling Fork, Mississippi one April night of '75, Gin Stevens was then raised by a black minister and learned to enjoy the arts at an early age. A self-taught artist, Gin quickly grew from boy to man and headed north to Chicago, taking the same path as the legendary Muddy Waters. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago but he found the weather unbearable and packed his things and headed for Los Angeles where he now lives. Gin works in a media called scratchboard; a primitive style of etching on a white board covered in a layer of black ink. This exhibit, Gin's second show at La Luz de Jesus, is a tribute to America's legendary Blues artists. |
