Daniel Martin Diaz
"The Art of Devotion"
April 5 - 28, 2002
|
Born February 12, 1967 in Tucson, Arizona, Daniel Martin Diaz's earlisest influences stem from the importance his family placed on death and religion. His parents came from Mexico with their traditional beliefs, which made their way into Daniel's subconscious. Many of these beliefs held no logical explanation for Daniel and it's these unanswered questions, mysteries, fears and vivid memories of his past that find a home in his present work. Diaz is a self taught painter who studied Music composition in college but began to explore painting in his early twenties. He has exhibited his work in Frankfurt, Germany, various cities in Austria and almost every major city in the United States. Most recently he had a two man exhibition with renowned photographer Joel Peter Witkin and is currently completing a commissioned work for San Antonio de Padua church in San Carlos, Mexico. The Ernst Fuchs Foundation in Vienna, Austria rewarded him a partial scholarship to attend an intensive three-week workshop in August 2002 to study the Old Master's mixed technique of egg tempura and resin oil painting. Diaz's work has been published in various magazines including Millenium, Equilibruim and Low Rider plus he has been featured on various television shows. Diaz made his debut in Los Angeles at the Uncommercial Art by Commercial Artist group exhibit in 2001. "The Art of Devotion" marks his first solo show in Los Angeles and La Luz de Jesus Gallery. |
