Anna Sea
"Of Life and Death"

June 4 - 27, 2004

Anna Sea was born in Chicago, grew up in Connecticut, and lived in Austria and Boston before moving to Brooklyn, New York, where she currently lives with her husband, Craig and their son, Cain. She has been painting and drawing for as long as she can remember, with a consistent focus on self-portraiture. This interest dates back to her childhood practice of tracing elementary school portraits of herself and then painting the tracings.

Sea considers each of her paintings as not so much complete unto itself, but rather as another chapte in an ongoing, autobiographical narrative, the creation of which is an inescapable compulsion for her. The completion of each painting brings her a sense of fulfillment she describes as addictive - a satisfaction that she's living her life and marking its progress. She began exhibiting her work in 1998. Of Life and Death is Anna's second featured exhibition at La Luz de Jesus Gallery.
