"After
Audubon"
January 7-31, 2005

A fan of the Audubon prints of the 1800's, Andrew Brandou feels that " a high level of care and craft has given them longevity, but they hold little interest to a contemporary audience." He sets out to rectify this problem with "After Audubon." In this show, the artist references classic Audubon imagery and compositions but updates them with current clothing, toys, and pop culture references. The result is beautifully rendered, watercolor and ink paintings with a traditional aesthetic and a contemporary sense of humor. Andrew Brandou earned his BFA from Otis/Parsons in Los Angeles. He has been exhibiting since 1998 at galleries in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Portland and Seattle. This is his first exhibition at La Luz de Jesus Gallery. |
