Alan Forbes is a 37-year-old artist, a son of Connecticut who has spent the last few decades of his life on the West Coast. A staunch San Francisco Giants fan, he currently resides in Echo Park California fearless of neighborhood repercussions under the menacing shadow of Dodger Stadium. Living in Hollywood at the inception of his artistic career Forbes was known as an infamous prankster employed by Tower Records on Sunset Boulevard. Following his tenure in the art department he set out for a successful commercial art career in the music industry and early on developed the signature icon of the famed rock band The Black Crowes. More famously Forbes is a household name among rock poster collectors, other artists, and musicians as his portfolio also includes over 400 visually explosive silk-screened rock posters. Many of these posters draw a hefty sum in the market as they are not only valued for the supercharged imagery, master craftsmanship, lowly numbered editions, but Forbes’ knack to forecast the Rock zeitgeist with the then largely unknown names on the bills like Queens of the Stone Age, Rage Against the Machine, The Offspring and the White Stripes. In the balance with producing posters and commercial work Forbes has also found a following in gallery shows beginning with his first group show at La Luz de Jesus in 1991.
