"Love
Letters From Crawford"
February 4 -27, 2005
| Helen Garber attended the School of Visual Arts in New York and the New York Academy of Art. Upon completing her education in 1997, the artist began questioning her Gen X upbringing and challenging the values instilled in her by MTV and the media in general. Today she approaches each piece armed by her classical painting background and fueled by her intense concern over rampant consumerism, the irresponsibility of advertisers, the media in general, and the impact this is having on our culture. "I am fascinated by the institutionalized amorality that is being widely accepted in our culture... My paintings are examinations of different fragments of the charred American dream... They are paintings of emptiness, cautionary tales of de-evolution told with a smattering of satirical humor - like a child laughing at an animal in pain, the irony being that the child is in pain as well." The La Luz de Jesus Gallery is thrilled to host its first exhibition of Gerber's intelligent, compelling, beautifully rendered works. |
