Gary Taxali
"Chumpy's Night-School "

January 7-31, 2005

According to Gary Taxali, "Doodling, sketching, defacing very nice paper and books, and creating new characters is something I have always done and cannot stop doing. In many ways, this show is a continuation of a series I began when I was four." In his new body of work Taxali skillfully expands his childhood narrative by producing sophisticated, simple compositions filtered through an adult perspective and a wicked sense of humor.
Gary Taxali was born in Chandigarh, India and raised in Toronto, Canada. He graduated from the Ontario College of Art in 1991 and immediately began working as a professional illustrator. He has been the recipient of numerous illustration awards and his work has been featured in publications such as Newsweek, The New York Times, Rolling Stone and Esquire. Taxali began exhibiting his personal work in the late nineties and has shown in several galleries throughout North America. He is currently writing and illustrating a children's book. This is Gary's second exhibition at La Luz de Jesus Gallery.
