Martin Wittfooth
August 4-27,2006
Martin Wittfooth’s oil paintings explore disquieting themes of industry and nature, unhinged evolution, the merge or clash of the nostalgic with the hereafter, and the “human footprint” on the earth: the kinds of cautionary world-visions forecasted by Martin was born in Toronto in 1981, and spent most of his childhood in Finland. He has since returned to Toronto where he works as an illustrator and artist, is inspired by fables, symbols, old things and various other artists, and likes to collect fancy coffee-table books and antique frames (which he uses to garnish much of his work). Martin’s work has been published in a variety of media, ranging from snowboards to album covers, and his paintings have been exhibited in various galleries in North America. Having participated in the past two Everything But the Kitschen Sync shows, this will be Martin’s first featured show at La Luz de Jesus Gallery. |
