BOB DOB
"Where Crows Die"
October 5-26, 2007
“I have a fascination with crows because of their cleverness and mystery. Considering how abundant they are, you rarely see a dead crow so I got the idea that they must go someplace to die…” -- Bob Dob. As a child in Hermosa Beach, CA, Bob Dob dreamt of becoming a professional baseball player. That dream was abandoned at the age of 13 when he was diagnosed with cancer. Making a miraculous full recovery after a year of battling his illness, he gravitated towards music and art. While growing up in Los Angeles in the 1980’s, the exposure to the music scene had a great influence on his art. Additionally, for ten years, Dob played in a punk band called Lunacy. He draws inspiration from painter Edward Hopper, old Disney, Film Noir and James Ellroy. WHERE CROWS DIE is Dob’s first solo show. He has been included in numerous group shows throughout Los Angeles and has also exhibited in Seattle, San Francisco, Palm Springs and Denver. Dob received his BFA in Illustration from Otis College of Art and Design, LA where he teaches Communication Arts students. A book of Dob’s art called "Bob Dob: Painting Collection Volume One", was published in 2006 by Mark Murphy, www.murphydesign.com, 44 pages, hard cover $20.00, soft cover $10.00. Bob Dob currently lives in Redondo Beach, CA where he draws, paints, and drinks coffee all day.
